Clay Basket represents to me the true North American. She was an Arapaho Indian from the 17th century and one of the main characters from James Michener's Centennial. I had the pleasure of portraying her in the first 11 hours of the 25 hours miniseries, Centennial. She, as well as all American Indians, suffered tremendous adversities and cruelty in their life's Journey. Clay Basket protects her child from the cold and harsh winter of Colorado, which is symbolic of the invaders. They are covered in buffalo skin to stay warm and are taken on their journey by their faithful and dependable horse.
