True dignity is born within. It is not acquired. Certain African tribes possess that innate dignity. I saw it in the Masai tribes in Kenya. I remember the first time I saw them. They seemed to be walking above ground, gliding on air. The SHILLUKS possesses those same qualities. I wanted to capture that essence in my young subject and put him on a journey in his native land, The West Bank of the Nile. Even though the terrain is harsh and rugged, he remains still, dignified and at peace on his journey.
